Motorhome - West Coast & Highlands

(Pressing  TOP  reloads to top of current page)
This page will be used as an initial display of some of our favourite photos from motorhoming on the west coast of Scotland (with some from the Highlands), almost exclusively whilst ethically and lawfully 'wild camping' (see 'Land Access Code').

Outlook from layby on A832 looking north towards Loch Broom, Oct'16.

Layby outlook on A832 at Little Gruinard Bay. Oct'16

Oct'16 - Down on the Beach at Little Gruinard Bay - then round the corner...

....came 3 red deer....... having breakfast on the beach....

...unconcerned at my presence......followed me up onto the road and crossed our layby....

.....But then stopped to check out our parked motorhome.

Checking out standard zoom lens at Loch Ewe......Vessels close - Staff swop or Navy chat? via RIB

Loch Ewe from the A832 looking over the Isle of Ewe - and over Drumchork, Oct'16

Oct'16. Victoria Falls, beside A832, Talladale....... on a very wet day.

From the A896 overlooking Upper Loch Torridon

Above 4 photos are views at the 'Crofters Assoc; free camping area at Shieldaig. Has a water point, bins, and nearby public loo. Nice atmosphere.

Now onto Skye..we personally are fond of the southern area of the island called the Sleat. The lovely little Hamlet of Ord is quiet with wildlife and views:

The road south from Ord is somewhat challenging for a motorhome...but interesting... firstly Tokavaig & then Tarskavaig.

Another favourite, but now on the east side of the Sleat is an area with stunning views out over Loch na Dal. Walking along the 'Drover's Road' and looking down over the loch -  then out over the loch towards the Isle of Omsay - then across the Sound of Sleat to distant Loch Hourn
North of the Kyle of Lochalsh some challenging single track roads take us to Duirinish and....

...then Plockton. We didn't find Plockton very 'motorhome friendly' in 2014 - apart from the fisherman who on noting my windscreen 'YES' sticker came over to the motorhome and indicated the yellow 'no overnight parking' sign ... wouldn't apply to us.

Of course we couldn't miss out Eilean Donan....

Next two photos are of Loch Garry from the site of the 'clearances' village of Daingean. A wet dismal day ... fitting really.

More scenes in the rain (well it is the Grampian Mtns), this time of Loch Tulla taken from theA82.
Moored just off the A85 at Strone Hill near Dalmally, natural Silver Birch woodland and the falls on the River Lochy.

Loch Awe on the east side of the Loch.

The A861 running along the northern side of Loch Sunart has some lovely stops.

Another favorite of ours - cross over Loch Linnhe from the A82 to Corron on the Corron Ferry. We spent our Ruby Anniversary at the Ardgour Inn at the top of the slipway. Stunning views up Loch Linnhe.

On the way to Mallaig on the A830, the road follows the north side of Loch Eilt. The Jacobite railway between Fort William and Mallaig takes the south side of the loch.

Lochaline, the ferry route to Fishnish on Mull.

Walking near to a stop just off the A82 near 'Signal Rock', looking up Glen Coe:
